Via the always amazing kstewartnews, we have word that “Welcome to the Rileys” will open the New Orleans Film Festival:
The 21st Annual New Orleans Film Festival revealed that two Sundance favorites, Jake Scott’s “Welcome to the Rileys” and Derek Cianfrance’s “Blue Valentine,” will bookend this year’s festival. Additionally, Danny Boyle’s “127 Hours” and Darren Aronofsky’s “Black Swan” are also on tap to screen as part the 2010 NOFF lineup. The festival will run from October 14-21, with screenings across the city.
“Welcome to the Rileys,” the fest’s opener follows a childless couple (James Gandolfini and Melissa Leo) who adopt a young woman (Kristen Stewart) down on her luck after Gandolfini’s character meets her on a business trip to New Orleans. The fest will close with Cianfrance’s film, which screened at Sundance and in the Un Certain Regard section of this year’s Cannes. “Blue Valentine” tells the story of a young couple (Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams) as they try to resuscitate their disintegrating marriage.
Commenting on the lineup announced so far, New Orleans Film Society president Larry Blake noted, ““We are thrilled to bring these renowned independent films to the New Orleans community as they set a strong tone for this year’s New Orleans Film Festival. Each year the festival strives to expose the latest in independent film and movie culture to the New Orleans metropolitan area.” The New Orleans Film Society produces the annual event.
Congratulations to the cast and crew!

Thanks to The Back-Lot for sending us a link to this interview with “Welcome to the Rileys” costume designer Kim Bowen.
Here are some excerpts of Bowen’s interview talking about Stewart:
Getting the perfect look for Stewart’s character of Mallory:
“Kristen Stewart was a challenge because she is really, really elegant. She is one of the most naturally elegant people I have ever encountered. She just had a natural thing about her body, the way she is shaped and the way she moves. She is an extremely gifted actress and I don’t know if that is part of what lends her as such an expert interpretation of clothes.”
“We went through three different paths to get her wardrobe right. The first time it was a stylist’s dream, she looked amazing. A modern version of Jodie Foster in “Taxi Driver,” she just looked amazing. We then realized it was wrong, she looked too good. We wanted to have her look more fragile.”
”In the end, we had to really strip it down. She ended up wearing large over-size clothes, hiding herself. You only get to really see her fully in her stripper outfits, very crude -what a young girl would think sexy looks like.”
Kristen Stewart’s investment in the character:
“Kristen is a very invested actress. She has been doing the Twilight films, and it was very important to her to play this character with a real dose of reality. I don’t think she wanted anything frivolous out of it, I don’t think she wanted to be glamorous. That wasn’t important to her, she wanted it to be real.”
“Kristen is a very courageous actress. She wanted to be fully that character of Mallory. She didn’t care about looking beautiful; in fact she thought quite the opposite. She had the make-up artist cover her with bruises and cold sores. Kristen looked a wreck half the time. She didn’t have any desire to be physically perfect.”
Welcome to the Rileys tells the story of Gandolfini and Leo, as Doug and his wife Lois who are dealing with the death of their teenage daughter. On a business trip to New Orleans, Doug meets teenage stripper Mallory. After turning her down at the strip club where Mallory works, Doug offers to pay Mallory $100 a day if he can stay for a while, get his head together. No sex. No strings. Lois soons joins Doug in New Orleans, and the couple try to heal their broken lives and save Mallory’s in the process.

Mark your calendars! The second part of “Breaking Dawn” will be hitting our theaters on November 16, 2012, one year after the first installment. Can’t wait!
There has been much speculation about whether Kristen Stewart will be joining Robert Pattinson at Fox’s Teen Choice Awards on August 9, which is being co-hosted by Katy Perry and the “Glee” guys.
Gossip Cop inquired, and we finally have the answer…
Stewart will NOT be at the Teen Choices Awards.
A rep for the actress says, “She is away shooting On The Road.”
Here are the outtakes from this year’s EW shoot that were missing in the gallery. Enjoy!

SAN DIEGO — Garrett Hedlund is starring in one of the most talked-about movies of Comic-Con, but it’s another of his upcoming projects that is generating a lot of buzz.
During MTV News and MySpace’s live stream Friday (July 23) to promote “Tron Legacy,” MTV’s Josh Horowitz asked Hedlund about “On the Road,” which also stars “Twilight” leading lady Kristen Stewart.
“I’ve been on ['On the Road'] since the fall of ’07, and it’s sort of been on my mind since then,” Hedlund said. “When we jump onto projects like this, we’ve sort of got to tie that kite to a post and hope that it’s still flying as high as it was when you come back to it. Luckily, now with coming off ‘Tron’ and going into that, we’ve got to take that kite off.”
The film has been in pre-production up in Montreal, as the cast and crew get ready to start shooting. Hedlund said right now the cast is going through “boot camp” and “intensive research with biographers.”
Even though they won’t start shooting until August, Hedlund had nothing but nice things to say about Stewart. “She’s got it all there. She’s where she needs to be. She’s fantastic,” he gushed. He also said Sam Riley, who plays Jack Kerouac in the film, is “incredibly devoted and a hard worker and also a fantastic actor.
“We’ve had wonderful times up there in Montreal. Just hoping to make a wonderful film that can fulfill everyone’s expectation of what this can actually be,” Hedlund said. “The family that we’re surrounded by is wonderful and unbelievable and, for me, I’m kind of on cloud nine.”
Stewart also had nothing but kind words for Hedlund when we caught up with her at an “Eclipse” screening last month. “I’ve met him a bunch of times, and I’ve hung out with him twice,” she said of her co-star. “He’s a great guy. … He’s written crazy stuff for it. He’s super into it. Not to sound … I don’t know how to put it. He’s, like, so in character, and he’s driving to Montreal. He’s awesome. I’m really, really excited.”
Very nice words from Garrett! We can’t wait to see these two work together!
